You are invited to help with Alpha at Calvary!

What is the Alpha course?

The Alpha Course at Calvary will consist of twelve weekly sessions designed to explore the basics of Christianity. Each session will consist of a shared meal, a short video, and a small-group discussion on a different weekly topic. These questions might include “What is the meaning of life?” or “Who is Jesus?”

Who is the Alpha course for?

It is intended for anyone—whether they are curious about or new to Christianity, returning to church, or simply wanting to ask questions and have meaningful conversations with others. The format is open discussion, and all questions are welcome.

What is the Alpha course not for?

It is not intended for debate or convincing others; rather, the intent is an open and friendly exchange of people’s beliefs, values, and hopes for themselves, their community, and the world. All questions and backgrounds are welcome, but we do not intend to arrive at one “right” answer but rather to discuss various proposed answers to questions.

Why would people want to attend?

Alpha is a place for people to be known, heard, find community, and to learn about other people’s beliefs, values, and worldviews. One of the easiest ways to know people deeply is to move beyond questions like what your name is and what you do, to questions like what you believe, what is right or wrong, and how you find meaning. Alpha does this, and hopefully, through the Alpha course, people will learn about others and find community.

How can you help?

1. If you are interested in helping out with alpha, attend our callout meeting. We need people to serve as leaders, helpers, dinner prep volunteers, childcare, and other things.

2. If your small group wants to support Alpha, consider volunteering as a group to cook for one or more weeks of the Alpha sessions. We would love to have internationally inspired meals as we hope to have many international

3. Finally, consider who in your life might be interested in a small group discussion and community to learn about Christianity or discuss philosophical questions about life and purpose. Invite them to sign up and check it out, even if only for one week.

Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.” John 4:34-38
