China Outreach Ministries
China Outreach Ministries extends God’s love and truth across the nation’s universities and at Purdue University to visiting students and scholars. Campus staff and volunteers build relationships through hospitality, practical service, and friendship, leading many to become followers of Christ.
Chinese Student Demographics
- Roughly 1000 Chinese Students at Purdue University
- 56% undergraduate students, 44% graduate students
- Purdue has the 4th largest Chinese University Student Population in the nation
Christianity in China
- Roughly 2% of Chinese adults self-identify with Christianity
- The people of China have very minimal opportunities to hear of the Gospel, Christianity, and of Jesus
- Those that are Christians in China have very little access to resources to help them grow in their faith
- Both Underground and State vetted churches are being broken up by the government making it difficult for people to meet for church or meet in larger groups for church
- Government comes first in China, much of religious material has been altered through the lens of honoring the government first
Temporary Housing Program
When new Chinese students move to the United States, there is often a period of time when the lease on their home has not started yet so they cannot move in right away, leaving them without a place to live in the US for a few days or weeks before classes start.
The temporary housing program is a program through the China Outreach Ministry where people in the community can open up their home to students in between housing situations for a few days or a week to provide them with a safe place to live for that time, be one of their first friends in the US, and show them the love of Jesus Christ through hospitality.
